STAYING HEALTHY

THE LATEST IN HOW TO STAY NATURALLY HEALTHY

1. Use Pink Himalayan Sea Salt instead or table salt.

This salt comes from the salt range in Punjab region of Pakistan, from mines 5,000 feet deep below the Himalayan Mountains. It is 99% pure and is know to be the cleanest and most unrefined salt in the world.

Its truely amazing thing is that it contains over 84 minerals and trace elements, many which are impossible to get from any other source, as a result of our over farmed and depleted soils. Table salt has 1 mineral- sodium chloride, as well as the sometimes added iodine, and anti clumping agent like yellow prussiate of soda, which is very hazardous to a person's health. Ordinary salt will also undergo bleaching and so contains highly toxic aluminium derivatives.

Salt is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, loosens excessive mucus and removes pathogens

in the air like pollens and its rich mineral content can also help to balance the body's pH

levels. In a pink salt lamp, it can also help to induce sleep and purify the air.

2. Start to eat more organic foods.

By now we all know that eating organic foods is an important element in staying healthy. But it can also be very expensive and when on a tight budget it can be difficult to manage. I find that I try and choose organic products when I need to replace something. That way I am not swapping over my entire pantry at once, and by adding things that you only use periodically, you will start to see more organic than not. But there is another thing you may wish to take into consideration when deciding what to buy organic and what to leave, when the cash gets low.

The 'Environmental Working Group', a US health & environmental research organisation, came up with some very helpful advise. They made a list of the traditionally cleanest, fruits and vegetables, which require little intervention by farmers to grow and so stay cleaner by having fewer pesticides added to them.

The clean 15 include: Asparagus, Avocado, Cabbage, Rockmelon, Kiwifruit,Eggplant, Mushrooms, Grapefruit, Onion, Mango, Peas, Watermelon, Sweet Potato, Corn and Pineapple. However as Corn is very highly Genetically Modified world wide, I would personally take it off my list immediately and add it to the list below.

The dirty dozen list of fruit and vegetables, have the highest amount of pesticides applied in order to produce them and hence these are the ones you SHOULD BE BUYING ORGANIC . They include, Apples, Capsicum, Blueberries, Celery, Grapes, Cucumber, Lettuce, Nectarines, Peaches, Potatoes, Strawberries and Spinach.

Organic foods when produced, don't rely on synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or Genetic Modification, which results in a more nutrient dense and tastier food. Eating more organic foods will over the long term reduce your bodies chemical load and also help in preventing certain cancers. Naturopath Holly George, says that children suffering from allergies and minor behavioural issues can see dramatic improvements when they change to organic foods. Also women who suffer from hormonal imbalances can be affected by the hormonal disruptors found in many pesticides, and going organic can help them enormously.

Shopping directly from the Farmers Markets, or having your produce delivered  by a local organic supplier who picks up the produce directly from the markets, packages your order and delivers it to your door; can reduce the time between paddock and plate, so avoiding loss of their nutrients while sitting in supermarket cool rooms. Also the more we buy Organic produce and foods, the cheaper they will become as consumer demand will give the buyers greater bargaining ability.
